=== Overview === Elixir is designed to be highly readable, extensible, and maintainable. It combines the expressive syntax of [[Ruby]] with the fault-tolerant and distributed features of [[Erlang]]. The language is built on top of the Erlang virtual machine, which enables it to leverage the capabilities of the underlying platform, such as concurrency and fault tolerance. Elixir utilizes the actor model of concurrency, where lightweight threads called [[processes]] communicate by message passing. This model allows for scalable and fault-tolerant systems, making Elixir an excellent choice for building highly concurrent and resilient applications.
